PL: Liverpool v West Ham
Liverpool v West Ham.. Sunday 24 September.. 14:00 BST
An interesting test..
Finally a game where you feel the 11 we put out should be well rested and prepared for the upcoming 90 minutes after the internationals and the early kick off. It was a matter of getting through these games as best we could and we did that very well.
Wolves away was a really good second half performance and the away game in Austria against LASK was a professional display with both score lines the same. 3-1 in each after going a goal down. In both games our dominance came flooding through once we settled and we could easily have scored more.
So we are 6 games in and still unbeaten facing an always tough match up against a much improved West Ham side. Kudus & Ward-Prowse quality additions to their squad. Still we have made great improvements too and this will be another great test of where we are at.
We should have a good game in store Sunday afternoon
Quick Stat Check.. Liverpool have won 4 & Drawn 1 of their opening Premier League games.. West Ham have Won 3, Drawn 1 & Lost 1 in their opening 5 games. Both teams won in Europe midweek. Liverpool last lost at home to West Ham in 2015.
Liverpool Team News
Thiago is out until October & for Trent this may be a game too soon although we may have to wait for team selection. Everyone else is injury free and dependent how fit they are after the game in Europe.
Liverpool Line Up
Ali, Gomez, Konate, Virg, Robbo, AMac, Szoboszlai, Jones, Diaz, Nunez, Mo
West Ham Team News..
The Londoners are without Aaron Cresswell and maybe Jarrod Bowen who is ill and will face a late fitness test. Velazquez returns to the squad.
West Ham Dangerman..
James Ward-Prowse.. With all the searches for a midfielder during the summer for multiple teams. Including ourselves.. Ward-Prowse went under the radar after captaining Southampton for many years and going for a smallish fee of £30 million this was a steal just below the level of our own Mac Allister deal..
A seasoned Premier League Pro he has hit the ground running with many goals and assists already. A real tidy footballer who can control the midfield and deliver quality passes from open play and dead ball situations. One to watch out for.
The Game
Both teams come into this game with plenty of confidence and West Ham won't be shy in attack. They like to play pretty freely. Which makes them good to watch but can also be a bit of a problem at the other end. They will be more possession based than usual but still always looking to get at our back four.
This has the makings of a proper midfield battle. Last season it would have been tougher for the reds but this time around we look solid. AMac & Szoboszlai are not only good going forward but they break up play exceptionally well which helps that back four out to the max.
Liverpools forward line is gelling nicely and is looking really good. Diaz & Mo are on fire. Who lines up along side them again remains the question. Nunez deserves a shot but whoever it may be.. Gakpo or Jota also we are blessed in this department.
Defensively Trent would be a loss but Joe can fill in there well and like Wolves away Robbo can push on. We are solid throughout its just the clean sheets we lack. Keep the clean sheets and we beat anyone cos you always feel we will score. This may come with better preparation for this fixture..
Prediction.. 3-0 To Them Mighty Reds..
In what will be a fairly tight game at times chances will have to be well worked and well crafted. Set pieces could be important too. We have been good from these in recent seasons but need to start attacking these again with real purpose.
That midfield battle will once again be a good one and ours should relish this challenge in front of the home fans and fire the rest of the team up. We will have to be quick into the tackles and you can see us dominating possession with quick measured attacks.
Robbo will be flying forward once again. Linking up well with Curtis and Diaz. Freeing up more space for Mo and our third strike option.. After two really slow starts in the last two games you don't get the feeling that will be the case this time.
West Ham are a good side but at Anfield this is a tough ask for them and equally a good measure of where they are at too. They will be dangerous from set pieces so no silly fouls in dangerous areas is the defences order of the day.
OurLFC Dangerman..
Mo Salah.. Mo likes to play against these.. He has 3 goals and 4 assists so far this season which isn't bad but could be a whole load better. The thing with Mo is though these numbers can double and treble very quickly and you expect him to go on a proper run now after 3 assists against Wolves and a goal against LASK.
The quicker that front 3 is settled the better as it's vital for Mo & Diaz. Nunez would be a great option again against West Ham as they looked to be striking up a good understanding against Villa and this could bare fruit once more.
Mo will have plenty of chances here and could walk off with a couple of goals and/or a few more assists..
