FA Cup Preview Brighton v Liverpool
WHO: Brighton In The FA CUP
WHEN: 29th January, 13:30 BST..
WHERE: AMEX STADIUM
BRIGHTON V LIVERPOOL
So we return to the south coast for a quick rematch against the seagulls after the embarrassment the other week.. Lets not get in the mind set that these are a bogey team cos they aren't.. It's only in recent seasons and more so at home we have struggled..
Two draws and a loss in the past three seasons 3-3 in October. 2-2 last season and a 1-0 loss in 2021.. At their place we were dominant until the same period of time where we have Won 2-0 last season.. Drew one each the year before and Lost the obvious one 3-0 recently..
More worrying is the fact we have shipped 6 goals against them in two fixtures this season.. Which has been a major problem for the team against pretty much everyone if we are being honest.. This season we have let in 25 goals in the Prem already.. Compared to 26 all last season.. So we can see where the problem lies..
Goals for the reds have not really been a problem when you consider the players missing.. We still have 34 goals and are not far away in averages to get to the 94 notched last season.. When you factor we haven't had a forward line nearly the whole season..
Now breathe.. haha.. I'm not one for spouting stats but when things are going tough they are relevant..
LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS
The team news for the reds is pretty much the same.. Virg, Diaz, Jota, Bobby & Arthur are all out still.. Good news being Virg, Jota & Bobby should start training again soon with a Mid-February target to return to action..
Diaz is hopefully back Mid-March and Carvalho & Milner were off with the sniffles and should be ok to feature if selected..
BRIGHTON
So we know what to expect from this lot.. Will they make changes.. Maybe.. But you'd doubt it.. Solid in midfield and quick in attack they are a threat to anyone.. Not so strong in defence and can easily be got at.. Having lost Trossard to Arsenal and Caicedo pushing for a transfer they are a little weaker..
Also Macallister seems to be looking for a way out too so there could be disharmony in the ranks.. Possibly.. Injury wise.. Lallana our old sick note is out again.. As are Moder, Buonanette & Colwill..
DANGERMAN
Probably the same as last time the aforementioned Macallister.. Yes they have pace out wide but this lad makes everything tick.. Play maker, Set pieces.. We saw in the World Cup his real potential.. And if he is looking for a move then we have to be seriously interested..
LIVERPOOL TEAM
Our Team Selection for this one is no different to what we should put out in the Prem against them..
Kelleher, Joe, Matip, Konate, Robbo, Bajcetic, Hendo, Trent, Salah, Gakpo, Nunez
THE GAME
So once again we get a bit repetitive.. Looking at those stats and I'm pretty sure they are right and stand to be corrected cos it really isn't my bag.. We need to set up strong in defence.. Joe Gomez has to play right back and stay there.. He struggles a bit at CB but Matip & Konate are perfect there. Robbo is just Robbo and as a back 4 you really can't see anything getting through them..
In Midfield Bajcetic deserves another outing he's really exciting and adds that bit of youth and bite we are lacking.. Hendo can add that experience and Trent can just be unleashed.. Everyone is pushing for this now.. Once the midfield is sorted next season then sure things can change.. But for now its just not fair on the kid.. Right wing is also a possibility in the future..
Up front having Nunez back is simply a game changer.. He will stretch them and cause them problems all game.. The more Nunez, Salah & Gakpo play together the better.. They need to gel and the more minutes they play can only aid this factor.. Diaz & Jota's return will be a smooth process and we will once again have the best attacking line up in Europe..
PREDICTION:
Depending on line ups again this can vary obviously.. If we go in strong then 3-0 to us.. If we rest a few then we can only hope we have learned our lessons and sneak a 1-0 win.. All is on Klopp and his team here..
So the match can play out in a number of ways based on team selection.. Last season we cruised to a 2-0 win there by dominating possession and getting at their back line.. Also closing off the gaps at the back. So lets see how it pans out..
OUR DANGERMAN: Once again Nunez..
