THE SQUAD: The Keepers
This is turning out to be a major summer of changes.. Klopp must have lay on his sun bed and thought.. 'Funk This.. I'm going all out..' With Fabinho not travelling with the team out to Germany for the upcoming training camp and rumours rife about Hendo, Thiago & Kelleher. There could be more changes still at the club..
So with all this mind and the knowledge that Bobby, Milner, Keita & The Ox have left the building for good and Carvalho & Ramsay have gone out on loan has the panic set in.. Well lets take a chill and look at what we can look forward too..
One thing to note before we dive in is the fact we don't have Champions League football. Which is a bit disappointing but at the same time very exciting.. Our first 11 so to speak can focus on challenging for the Prem while the second 11 (which we will reveal) and the Academy grads can focus on the UEFA Cup and other early cup competitions..
Alison Becker
As we slowly go through the squad the quality of player jumps out at you immediately. In Ali we have the best goalkeeper in the world. Few may disagree from other clubs of course that is their right.. Yet Liverpool & Brazils Number 1 says it all.
We all know what we get from Ali.. Leadership, All round keeping abilities, Assists and of course goals.. Guaranteed starter nothing more to say..
Caoimhin Kelleher
The Rep of Ireland international has been understudy to Ali for the last couple of years and may look for first team football as he will find it near on impossible to claim that role at Anfield. If he did stay he will no doubt play plenty of games this season in the cup competitions mentioned.
He has leadership qualities and is extremely comfortable receiving the ball and distributing it.. Penalty shootouts have been a forte as are reflex saves. He does ship a lot of goals though which is a concern. The Southampton game an example. Yet this may change with a good run of games..
Adrian
Our third choice so to speak in this line up has just signed a new one year deal which kind of says what's written on the tin.. Experience in abundance yet is in the twilight of his career..
Does he play.. More than likely a serious last resort as our goalkeeping department is seriously thriving thanks to the quality of Ali & Kelleher plus the work from the Academy Team..
Academy Graduate - Marcelo Pitulaga
Now we have 3 very good young lads coming through the ranks.. Harvey Davis who has agreed a season loan with Crewe.. Virezslav Jaros who had a loan himself last season at Stockport County and will likely look for another this season..
Yet Pitulaga looks set for big things.. Recommended to the club by Ali himself the Brazilian he has been on the bench a few times and played regular in the Under 23's.. After a loan at Macclesfield last season he travels out to Germany for the upcoming training camp..
He is also now listed on the clubs website as a First Team Goalkeeper.. So could he be ready to step up. He will be one to look out for during pre-season friendlies.
So all in all we are in a very good position in this department. The Academy has yet more youngsters coming through the ranks who are held in high regard also. Fabian Mrozek & Jakub Ojrzynski are players of note..
Anymore Signings Needed..
I guess we will know more after pre season. The quality of our number 2 keeper is paramount this season as we look to attack every competition once again. With the quality we have in depth a good run is very much a reality.
