It's finally over the line, done and dusted.
A Six Year deal at £120,000 a week(which is mid range in Our wage structure). Benfica will receive a reported £65 Million upfront with a further £10 Million for appearances and another £10 Million for Trophy success. Let's hope he costs us the full amount Reds and brings home No 7, a League Title and a golden boot. Go on Lad!
It looks like Sadio has sadly decided to move for pastures new for a reported £360,000 a week something LFC simply can't match and sends an obvious message to Mo's agent that we will move on if they continue with demands for silly money the club simply cannot afford. We play fair and the owners will not risk the clubs financial future for the sake of short term glory players. Watch this space on that story.
Should the deal get done then we wish Sadio the best of luck. A great servant to the club he deserves to wind down his career in an easy league at a club that is rarely challenged since Our Jurgen left their league to grace Ours. Yes, that was a Bitchy Comment wasn't it!
As much as the news of Sadio's departure was somewhat of a surprise and disappointment the owners have once again shown their ambition and backed JK with his first choice replacement. Spending what could total a club record on a dynamic Young Player who seems to have the World of Opportunity in front of Him. potentially the next best striker to have been found in the European game is a true mark of Our intent to stay in the category of Europe's elite.
We all remember Luis right. Have we got another Uruguayan to torture and torment the Premier League. Let's hope so.
Here's what Our JK thinks :-
"Darwin is a wonderful player; already really good but so much potential to get even better. That's why it's so exciting, to be honest"
"He is as excited by us as we are by him, which makes for a great relationship, when you appreciate each other's strengths. That is certainly the case here. He thinks we suit him and we believe he is the right fit for us – so let's do it."
"His age, his desire, his hunger to be even better than he currently is. His belief in our project and what we are looking to do as a club."
"I'm very grateful to everyone at the club for making it happen. We've shown decisiveness and ambition in equal measure"
"He plays without fear, he's powerful. I know he will excite our supporters. He has all the pieces we look for - he can set a tempo, brings energy, threatens space from central and wide areas. He is aggressive and dynamic with his movement."
"It's important we all recognise we are getting a 'work in progress' with Darwin. He recognises that himself, for sure. I love how much focus and humility he has."
"We have wonderful attacking options already and he becomes part of that now. So there is no pressure on him at all."
Here's what Darwin had to say on signing day
"I'm really happy and delighted to be here at Liverpool. It's a massive club…when I arrived at the training ground, I was really surprised to see the structure and all the trophies here."
"You can then imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later on when you come (back) again and see the trophies on display, you can say, 'Look, I was a part of that, I was there at that time, winning trophies."
"That's one of the reasons why I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool."
Of course nothing is ever guaranteed and it may take some time for the boy to settle but the excitement is tangible and if he can score against Our Alli in both legs of last seasons champions league campaign then he can grab a bagful against anyone. Would be really cool if he beats his shirt number(27) in his first campaign.
The last sweetener in the reported deal, it was reported he turned down better contract offers from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United to play for LiverpoolFC. We Love You Already Man! YNWA! Up the Reds! Up Nunez!
