RESULT // Liverpool 2-0 Brentford

FIRST HALF

I feel as chilled penning this write up as I did watching the game. This was a performance that took me back to the old Bob Paisley days. We set our stall out early intent on keeping that all important clean sheet and taking our chances when they came. Which we done in some style..

The first 20 minutes once again had that controlled feel. Sussing out what the opponents threats were and learning how to cope with them. Brentford tried to counter but we got numbers back and snuffed them out. Set pieces they were more dangerous because of sheer height but thats where our first goal came from.

From a set piece Konate won the 50/50. The ball fell to Mo who broke a tackle which Jota was onto like a flash and we were away. If counters under Klopp were exciting then they are equally as cool under Slot. Diaz ran into space and Jota found him with a simple through ball. He took a touch and unleashed a left foot drive into the roof of the net..

There were more chances for both teams but Liverpool were getting more and more control the longer the game went on and Trent was unlucky not to make it two with a well worked move finishing with a deflected shot that went just over the bar.. 1-0 at the half

SECOND HALF

It was more of the same second half. No need for a change of tempo just pure dominance with the ball. Brentford had a good chance to level with a header from a corner but Ali pulled of an instinctive save and had to be on his toes to punch clear.

After that we clicked into to gear and produced some really stunning intricate football. One piece of play really stood out involving Mo. Who picked it up on the right hand side and played two or three one-two's with different players before Mac Allister played a clever through ball to Mo who carried on his run and was unlucky not to score after some equally good defending.

Again the passing was quite sublime at times. The pure simplicity of it. Give.. Go.. Pass & Move.. Remind you of anything..? Brentford were looking tired and running out of steam and ideas. When we upped the tempo broke up the play and their left back who had a good game was found out of position. Diaz slid the ball to Mo who curled in to secure the points..

SUMMARY

Sure there were a few teething problems as there will be in the early stages of Slots management.. Also we don't want to get carried away but two wins in two and two clean sheets in two speaks for itself. The early signs remain extremely positive. This was a possession based dominant performance.

The players left the pitch unscathed and fresh ready for what will be a much sterner test next week at Old Trafford. Which is why you don't want to go hell for leather week in week out. Brentford came and played really well but to see them burnt out at the end with Liverpool looking like they can go another ten rounds is a real statement..

Arne Slot Na Na Na Na Na rang out around the ground at the end as he came on to thank the fans. No fist pumps sadly just a chilled thumbs up.. Like it..
