Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool.. Liverpool top of the league. Liverpool.. Liverpool top of the league. In what was a mediocre game first half the second half sprung to life as The Reds once again came from behind to grab 3 vital points.
The less said about that first half the better.. If ever there was an example for never playing an early kick off ever again then this was it.. Both teams were slow and sluggish.. Nothing got going.. There were a few shots at goal but all in all a poor spectacle.
Palace who are down on their luck at the minute put in a shift and had the better chances. Ali saving superbly to deny the hosts from close range. When Palace were awarded a penalty the usual worries entered your mind.
It was clear Endo had been fouled and the palace player went down far too easy. Which was a common theme to their play throughout. The referee to his credit overturned it. But it took an age.. and this diving has to be punished too. Rather than according to commentators its using all their experience..
So 0-0 at the half bored to tears and boom the game comes to life.. Palace got a penalty. This time it was deserved. Quansah catching the Palace striker late and the spot kick was dispatched with ease.
Klopp rang the changes. Gomez coming on at right back. Harvey and Curtis in midfield alongside Trent.. Gakpo went up top and the fuse was lit. The chances started to come but it was football suicide from Ayew.. As he pulled down Harvey. Got his red and with Palace down to 10 men you fancied our chances.
Salah pulled one back pretty quickly. After a high ball into the box Curtis Jones laid a ball to the Egyptian who pin balled a shot into the back of the net. If he hadn't scored it would have been a pen for us. As Curtis was rifled by Ward who too was on a yellow card already..
The icing on the 3 point cake for The Reds came after the impressive Harvey Elliott weaved his way up the pitch. He gave the keeper the eyes from 20 yards out as if to say this is going top left and smashed a ball low into the bottom right corner..
Diaz had one ruled out for offside before Ali pulled off another worldy in the last minute to guarantee the win. 3 huge points in the title race for The Reds and plenty of food for thought for Klopp in his next team selection. You wouldn't look too far away from the side that finished this one.
