PL: Spurs v Liverpool

Spurs v Liverpool.. Saturday 30th September.. 17:30 BST

Liverpool travel back down to the capital for a Saturday evening clash against the in form Tottenham Hotspur. In what threatens to be yet another exciting encounter between the two in the early season battle for top 4 positions.

Where The Reds are kind of nearly there barring a couple of signings in their rebuild you feel Spurs are just beginning after the loss of Harry Kane in the summer to Bayern Munich and the appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou who has already put his marker down.

They shelled out some coin in the transfer window on the likes of Maddison, Van De Ven, Porro, Vicario, Veliz & Brennan Johnson. Added to some players who have been there a while it's a question of how quickly they settle.

Off the back of a 2-2 draw at Arsenal which should have been a win possibly as VAR gave handball which was questionable.. (Not like our one at Chelsea that wasn't given but we'll save that for another post hey) The Londoners will be full of confidence.

Playing at one of the most impressive grounds in the Prem their new stadium is epic. I must say I do miss White Hart Lane. Ive been there loads and it was always a tough game. When they scored it was loud.. Very loud.. Although we bagged a few ourselves like..

We are still unbeaten and rested quite a few in that midweek win over Leicester so we will be fit and ready to go. Also full of confidence. This new side Klopp is building feels different to the one we knew and loved. More solid. More controlled. Patient and clinical.

Which is what we will have to be in these tough away games. The midfield has been overhauled and filled with tough tackling all rounders. All of them can battle. All of them can assist and all of them can score.

We know Trent is on his way back and most will call for him to start right back but you take Jones out of that midfield (who has been amazing by the way) and play Trent in there then this team will be unstoppable. I hope you're reading this Jurgen..

Quick Stat Check.. Liverpool have won 5 & Drawn 1 of their last 6 in the Prem.. Spurs have Won 4 & Drawn 2 .. Liverpool are unbeaten away to Tottenham since 2017.. That 4-1 at Wembley. Does that count..? Well it was 2012 at their old place..

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Thiago.. Who..? Is still out with a touch of the Naby Keita's.. Which is a shame cos holding in this midfield would really suit him. Get fit mate.. Bajcetic has a slight niggle. While Trent should be fit to travel and face a late fitness test alongside Joe Gomez to determine who starts..

LIVERPOOL LINEUP

Ali, Gomez, Konate, Virg, Robbo, Trent, AMac, Szoboszlai, Mo, Diaz, Nunez. More than likely Joe at right back and Curtis in midfield while Trent starts on the bench.

SPURS TEAM NEWS

Spurs are in a bit of an injury crisis of sorts with 8 players out. Perisic, Bentancour, Sessegnon, Gil, Lo Celso, Johnson, Whiteman & Maddison who faces a late fitness test too.

SPURS DANGERMAN..

Heung Min Son.. With Maddison quite likely ruled out of this one all eyes will be on Son who faces a late test himself but should be ok to play. He needs no explanation how dangerous he is. Lining up alongside Kulusevski they have a bit of pace in attack.

With Maddison behind pulling the strings they will beat more teams than they lose to and Son will score plenty this season. Good on both feet he has got a few against us over the years so one to watch as ever.

THE GAME

It's always a pretty open game against Spurs so you wouldn't expect too much sitting in from either side. Mistakes have cost us against these regular over the years and cost us weekly all season. Switching off or not defending easy situations well.

If we do that here then they will take that gift with ease. So 100% concentration is very much the order of the day. No messing. Win your battles and clear your lines. There really is no need to be cute.

For all of Tottenhams threats they still don't seem solid in midfield or defence which is obviously where we will target. Romero is a yellow card waiting to happen and their team feels a midfield and defensive rebuild away from full strength.

Midfield again is where this game should be won and you feel the tools in our locker are getting sharper by the minute. Kane is a miss for any team and their injuries could cost them here too.

Our front 3 of Mo, Diaz and Nunez look to be shaping up nicely and have the quality to take these away games by the scruff of the neck. With a bit more space to attack their pace and trickery could really cause Spurs some trouble.

PREDICTION.. 3-1 To Them Mighty Reds..

It would be daft to go for any other scoreline at the minute.. Thats 4 on the bounce and 5 for the season. You just know there is a mistake in our locker. For whatever reason we just can not shake this..So more than likely they score early..

Then our new mentality monsters kick in and take control of proceedings. Mo will fancy this one again as will all the front three. They will look to counter and could find themselves one on one a good few times.

They will also be looking to unlock them from midfield quite regularly and out wide through Diaz, Robbo & Trent (if he starts). Like we say this is a very different Liverpool side that could punish you from anywhere. Goals from midfield are becoming the norm again.

Set pieces will come our way too and we really have to attack these. We've discussed this before. We kind of wait for it to come to us rather than making runs to attack the ball. With the quality of deliveries in the team now this has to be sorted.

So a controlled, patient performance from The Reds. Plenty of possession just waiting for the game to unfold and attacking areas intelligently.

OurLFC DANGERMAN..

Darwin Nunez.. A consistent run of games is what he's needed and his pace will cause all sorts of problems. He's finding the back of the net and you feel he is getting an understanding with Mo & Diaz as well as the midfield who are getting to know his moves.

He is a proper number nine. Still quite young and he just has to believe in himself. He really has got it all. The more he scores the quicker he will grow. His tracking back against West Ham was excellent so that defensive side of his game is on point.

A couple of goals here. Maybe an assist too and he's set for some season..
