MOTM v Newcastle: Darwin Nunez

There were plenty of players to go at in this weeks vote for Man Of The Match after the excellent comeback at St James Park. Romping home though with nearly 50% of the vote was our new No.9 Darwin Nunez.

After coming on as a sub he stretched the game straight away. Mis-controlling with his first touch when he found himself open on the right hand side of the Newcastle defence. A position he must have seen was good to attack.

As moments later he scored his first from a similar position. Pouncing on an error and finishing hard and low. The second was again similar in position. Although his intelligent run made the space to once again produce a world class finish.

World Class is exactly what Darwin is. You can't teach the movement and runs he makes. Also the finishes he has in his locker. Its instinctive. As much as he is great on the deck he has a great header on him too and this is another serious weapon.

What's held him up..? He is still young and has only played one full season at the top level in Portugal. By a full season we mean game in.. game out.. Now the time has come to do the same in this team. He will not look back..

Darwin Nunez Is Your Star Player..

Darwin Was Not Alone

Before Darwin produced his cameo there were quite a few who turned up when we were seriously up against it. None more so than Alisson Becker. He produced the save of the season from Almiron's effort. Reacting so quick to palm a rocket of a shot onto the crossbar before recovering to push it out of play.

Ali is a leader and was so influential in this result. With that save and many others. Guiding his defence in the process. The one other time he looked beaten was when Almiron curled another shot to his right that hit the post. When you look closer though Ali had it covered..

Mac Allister and Szoboszlai were also outstanding as was Jota when he got on. This was a serious team performance. Joe Gomez came on for the red carded Virg and played a blinder.. Quansah came on as a sub and looked every bit a new signing capable of holding his own.

By the end of the season there will be a whole host of these youngsters coming through with all the opportunities coming their way. We are in a very good place and a very good league position now after some tricky games.

Here are some of your views..

Timo.   'Without the monstersave from Ali we haven't a chance to come back in the game in my eyes... This save was stunning'

Kris.  'We played the second half very well even though with 10 men. A great result for us! There were a lot of great lads in the match today... still I would give my vote for Darwin'

Chibson.   'It's got to be btw Ali and Nunez'

Kev.  'Hard to go against Nunez after what he done but i thought Gomez was superb'

Pablo.  'Nunez!!! Darwin!! Alli gets a mention, but Darwin wins the day'

Pam.   'Nuñez. Game changer.. But our Ali, WOW! And our Boss for the subs and tactics'

Ken.   'I would have to say Klopp for his last two subs. We where poor first half and first 25 minutes but last 20 minutes we were the better team. fantastic fight back 1 nil down to win 2-1 two great goals from Numez'

Win, Lose or Draw its nice to look at the positives.. The Star Player will always be voted by yourselves.. Look out for the poll..
