Match Report: Spurs (h)

Liverpool 1 - 1 Tottenham

Over recent seasons we have had some tough games against Spurs. It is always close.. Late winners for us.. Bobby Firmino.. Late penalty equalisers for them (though very dubious) and of course the odd hard fought 2-0 victory in a Champions League Final..

There have been a few draws here and there but in general we have managed to beat them. Much could be said for this game although this time we couldn't carve out that important winner to keep the pressure on City..

Quick Start:

With all that in mind you know what you are getting from Spurs and indeed a Conte team.. They are going to sit in and cut off our supply lines out wide. Their midfield will remain resolute and look to the pace of their front 3 to open us up.

But it was us who started the better.. Our press was excellent and they barely had time to get a touch on the ball. It was a shame Mane couldn't have controlled a ball in the box after a few minutes because it would have opened up nicely for him to get a shot away..

For all our possession though we never really opened them up. Virg had a couple of great chances from corners that more often than not win these types of games.. And they broke on us quite a few times with Hendo and Ali making some very good last ditch blocks and saves..

Second Half:

It was more of the same second half.. We had so much possession once more but our final ball or that bit of class was missing. Often opting to shoot rather than setting someone up for a tap in. Better crosses and composure were needed in great areas.

They broke the deadlock through Son who we know is a huge threat. Tapping in from close range.. This made us step things up a gear and they never really got out of their half after that..

Diaz as we all know levelled the game for the reds with a deflected shot from the edge of the box and you just felt we could turn this around.. Diaz who was outstanding all game started to link up nicely with Tsimikas down the left wing and they were proving to be a real threat. This opened up space down the right and the usually pinpoint Thiago was an overpowered pass away from a wide open Trent who could well have scored..

Thoughts:

All in all a draw was probably the right result.. We have had a busy few weeks.. No more so than our victory in mid week.. We are still unbeaten in what seems like the whole season. Draws feel like defeats which is crazy but shows the level of our standards and what this team can do..

We are still top of the league and nothing has really changed other than wanting City to draw.. We now need them to lose to win the league.. Or maybe draw a couple.. We all still believe and we will most certainly Go Again.. Next up Stevie G's Villa..
