Who: Bournemouth
When: Saturday 27th August, 15:00 BST
Where: Anfield
Liverpool face The Cherries in our first Saturday fixture of the season.. Real football times.. Old school 3 o'clock kick offs just how we like em..
Liverpool v Bournemouth:
We all know how poorly our season has started and it most definitely wasn't what we were expecting.. Whether it's the injury problems. Defensive frailties.. Midfield solidity or our star striker sitting it out while his head recovers from connecting with a Palace players nose..
Old Trafford was a wake up call to the team and the manager.. Not that it was needed.. Fulham gave us a warning (though we were robbed by a penalty).. Palace we played well but didn't take our chances and got done by not defending properly.. and United away was just too much to go in to.. (and we were robbed by an offside not that that's an excuse)
So thankfully the Bournemouth game came around quickly.. 5 days after THAT defeat.. I mean its a nice game to get things back on track.. Arsenal demolished them last time out and it could have been ten.. Bournemouth hardly got out of their half so you would expect more of the same come Saturday..
Liverpool Team News:
The team news looks no different really and won't until September.. Nunez will be back for the Everton game and the cavalry should arrive around the same time if not shortly after.. Jota & Matip could also be back for that one..
Curtis, Kelleher & Keita could be available sooner.. Thiago will be a bit later (mid September) and Konate, Ramsay & The Ox face much longer on the treatment table..
Bournemouth:
The Cherries have a couple of players possibly returning from injury. Lowe, Fredericks And Dominic Solanke who we know only too well though all three are subject to late fitness tests. Stanislas, Rothwell & Brookes are out..
Bournemouth set up with a 3-5-2 last time out which could prove fatal against us. Arsenal destroyed them and we like attacking and get in behind down the wings so you'd expect that to change to 4 at the back.. or.. More than likely.. Like Palace did go with 5 at the back and 4 in midfield with a lone attacker targeting our right back and right sided centre back..
Liverpool Team Sheet:
Ali, Trent, Virg, Gomez, Robbo, Fabs, Hendo, Carvalho, Diaz, Salah, Bobby
Prediction:
Bournemouth will sit deep and try to make things difficult. Something we will face all season at home.. They haven't got the creativity in midfield or attack to seriously threaten us if we set up strong and start with the intensity and energy we know we can.
We have spoke of Robbo's post match interview after the United game and you can imagine the team meeting after that.. The boys will have aired all the grievances in the right way. Behind closed doors, as a team and will be itching to put this right..
The key here as in every game is not to concede that first goal.. Score early ourselves and remove that mountain we have had to climb in our previous whatever games.. A clean sheet is imperative.. Win 1-0.. Win dirty.. Just Win..
In reality though this should be a cricket score and a clean sheet.. In a week where we have had a nice draw against Derby in the League Cup and the Champions League draw has been made with Ajax, Napoli & Glasgow Rangers on the horizon. Things are starting to get serious.
With 3 games in a week all in Liverpool.. This one, Newcastle & Everton away.. The games are coming thick and fast and by the time the cavalry arrives we may well just be starting to feel a bit better about things..
3-0 to them mighty reds
