Liverpool ran out fairly easy winners in their final pre season fixture against newly promoted Darmstadt from the German Bundesliga..
The reds were 2-0 up fairly quickly with a poachers finish from Mo after an excellent Szobos corner. A couple of flicks and a knock down from Virg freed up Mo to slot home from close range.
Diogo Jota was next on the score sheet after Mo was quick to close down the defender who was left isolated by a sloppy pass from the keeper.. Mo nipped in and played Jota a simple pass and the striker clipped a finish into the far corner.
Darmstadt scored a break away goal shortly after which seems to sum up our team at the minute. We go two or three up and switch off and get hit on numerous counters..
The third came from yet another corner from Szobos.. If we weren't a threat already from set pieces the addition of the Hungarian and Mac Allister just bolsters these areas. Our new number 8 whipped in a cross that Diaz was quick to get on to and flick a bullet of a shot in off the underside of the crossbar..
The game had lost all its mojo until this point and this goal and the subs coming on lifted the match and the crowd.. The sluggish display probably a mix of not wanting to get injured with Chelsea away on the horizon and serious training sessions taking their tolls..
Ben Doak and Harvey Elliot got a serious grip of the game when they came on and took it to the germans jugular.. Driving and probing whenever they picked the ball up. Both were unlucky not to score themselves or indeed assist a team mate..
Positives from the game were Alexis Mac Allister dominating midfield.. The ease of the win.. The emergence of yet more quality young players and most importantly we are in injury free with Thiago & Bajcetic to come back.
