Chelsea v Liverpool PL Preview

Chelsea v Liverpool.. Sunday 13 August.. 16:30 BST

New Season & The Fuse Is Lit..

In what seemed to be a tough away game we could quietly navigate first match of the season when the fixtures were released. The fuse has been well and truly lit in what should now be an epic Premier League encounter..

We are all very much still in limbo with the transfer activity of Caicedo & now Lavia at time of writing. Speculation is rife.. We will get one.. Chelsea will get the other.. Or.. Both teams stand a chance of getting both..

At the end of the day we are only interested from our side of course and we like to trust what we do in the transfer market. We've had a very good track record of late and if neither work out we have a very good squad.

If you have read the Team & Preseason Reviews we touch on the fact there is no real rush as we have 3 transfer windows to get the midfield right. We have Thiago & Bajcetic coming back. Trent can play midfield & A Mac bossed it in their preseason.

Joel Matip is also a shout as he could just slot into a back 3 Fabinho style. Pushing Trent & Robbo back up them wings to cause havoc..

As for Lavia & Caicedo at 19 & 20 years old these are both kids and they need the right guidance.. They both have great potential and what will be will be.. But the game itself has an added edge.. As if it needed it. The Premier League is back..

Quick Stat Check.. Liverpool have won 4 & Lost 1 of their preseason games.. Chelsea have Won 3 & Drawn 2 of theirs.. The Reds haven't lost a league game at Chelsea since 2018

Liverpool Team News

The reds are as fit as can be.. Everyone came home unscathed from preseason training and the matches.. The only two who remain questionable are Thiago and Bajcetic who are a week or two away from selection as they build fitness after season ending injuries last time round.

Liverpool Line Up

Ali, Trent, Konate, Virg, Robbo, A Mac, Szobos, Gakpo, Mo, Diaz, Jota

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea are without 6 players for their season opener. Nkunku suffered a knee injury. Likely ligament damage and could be out for some time. Broja, Badiashile, Chukwunonso, Fofana & Bettinelli are also on the injury list..

Chelsea Dangerman

Nicolas Jackson.. They have a number of threats which you'd expect from any Chelsea side but the new signing from Villarreal looks to be a very good player although a little untried at the highest level..

He is one for the future but will be a right handful. Mudryk will have plenty of points to prove as will Sterling.. Thiago will also be one to get past in defence.

The Game

Once again this will all come down to tactics from our side. If we are as open as last season using this new inverted full back set up then Chelsea will have a field day. Let's face it it has been schoolboy at times and defensive solidity is paramount in any game at this level.

Looking at Chelsea's predicted line up they have a lot of pace up top and a pretty solid team.. They shipped a lot of goals last season so you'd expect a goal fest here on last seasons form..

Saying that they have a new manager with premier League experience and this is first game of the season. Its a good time for both sides to be facing off in a battle of serious Prem heavyweights.. More so for the reds as The Bridge will get more and more harder to play at the longer the season goes on.

PREDICTION.. 3-1 To Them Mighty Reds If We Set Up Strong..

You could see us racing into a lead as we have a bit more cohesion in attack. Will we learn and shut up shop..? That will be the test hopefully here and in many games this season we can overcome..

Experience and togetherness are extremely important. We have a seriously potent strike force whoever lines up. Our defence and keeper are amongst the best in the world. We just have to show up and do the simple things right.

The midfield battle could well determine this fixture as winning the ball high up the pitch could create the openings the strikers need to get chances away at goal.. As well as closing off attacking threats defensively..

We can outscore anyone.. Lets keep clean sheets too..

OurLFC DANGERMAN..

Diaz.. He has looked in excellent form during preseason and just creates the unexpected at will.. After last seasons injury disappointment he will be looking to dominate from the off..

Mo is due a decent run of form.. 20+ goals and assists by the half way point sort of form and you wouldn't rule him out scoring or assisting here.. Coady Gakpo looks to be settling in nicely.. Be interesting to see who lines up as striker.. Cos Nunez is chomping at the bit alongside Jota..

Great options..
